Book reveiw: The cats of tanglwood forest

Title: The Cats of Tangelwood

Author:Charles Delint

Illustrator: Charles Vess

Stars: 9/10

So with me there's two kind of books. The ones that are recommended by my friends and I've been reading about online and I'm super exited about. And there's the kind that I randomly picked of the library shelf because they  have a cool cover or have good reviews from an author I like. I usually read two pages into these books and then send them back. But occasionally I find a jewel. This was one of those. The story is about a twelve year old girl named Lillin. Every day she dose her farm chores then runs of to explore Tanglewood forest. One day she gets bitten by a snake. Suddenly she finds herself in a circle of cats, but not any cats the forest cats. They take pity on her and tern her into a kitten, saving her life. On the way to getting back to being a Human she meets a fox, a badger witch and many other interesting characters. This book really pulled me in and its one of the few books thees days where it fees like its okay if it doesn't have a sequel. I really liked the way they had a lot of native American stories woven into the book and how they have beautiful illustrations on almost every page. Defiantly a good read.

Some stuff I wrote about the Government

Why the electoral collage should be abolished

America’s political system is a democracy. That means that everyone’s vote should be equal. You probably knew that. But the votes aren’t equal. Why? Because of a terrible, terrible system called    the Electoral College.
Most Americans cast their ballot on Election Day thinking that that vote is going to go to the candidate of their choice. The truth is they go to the states electors. Each state has a certain amount of electoral votes determined by population (574,000 people a vote).  When you vote you’re actually asking the electors to vote for the candidate that you chose. Most of the time they do but there they can actually use the votes for whoever they want.  This means there is a chance that your vote doesn’t even count. That’s not democracy.

But it’s not just the Electors which are the problem.  There are 538 Electoral votes (the number of representatives and senators in the House of Representatives and the Senate). I said before that the electoral votes are divided evenly among the states. However there’s a law which says that all states must have three votes regardless of population. This seems fair but the problem is that there is a limited amount of votes. This means that states don’t have all the votes they should. Ohio is missing 2 electoral votes, Texas 6 and California 10. I said earlier that each vote represents 574,000 people. That means 5,740,000 people who live California actually live in smaller other states according to the Electoral College.  Plus the Electoral College doesn’t protect the smaller states from the bigger ones by taking so many votes away from them. People running for President don’t visit the smaller states and they don’t visit the larger states where most of the people live, they visit the swing states. Swing states are basically states that have a good amount of electoral votes but don’t have a fixed political party (as opposed to states like Texas who always vote republican or states like California who always vote democrat).

And of course there are the territories, that aren’t states but 4.4 million people live in. And these people aren’t allowed to vote even though they are citizens of the U.S.  This is even less fair when you consider citizens that are abroad can vote over the mail.  Even U.S. citizens in space can vote. Do 4.4 million people just not exist?

The Electoral College pretends people don’t live where they do, makes our votes worthless and makes U.S. citizen not be able to vote. This is wrong. This is not democracy. This should be abolished.

Book reiew

This is April's guest review:

book title: uncollected

author: Paul Jennings

illustrator: Keith McEwan

my rating out of ten: 9.5/10

ages 9 to 12

this edition first published in 2002

This book has many stories in it and it is one of my favourite books I have ever read.
That is something to say, because I have read hundreds of books!
Anyway, uncollected has so many great endings and fantastic stories that I can't tell you anything!
It's all too extraordinary to reveal.
But what I must say is:
Paul Jennings is the best writer in Australia in my opinion and this book is certainly one to read!

They weigh as much as 670 pounds and can be up to 9 feet long. Its large jaw and huge teeth allow it to bite down incredibly hard which helps it hunt. Hey everyone!,

I started this blog when I was about seven blogged for a few months and then stopped for two years then started again in 2011. Though I do not have many followers it has been really fun posting since. Now that its 2013 I have been doing this for three years(sort of) and I feal like should make this more of a once a week thing and less of a once a month thing. Hopefully I will be posting more this year. In the mean time why don't you head over to the new Portland aquarium over here!

Happy new year!,
